When I converted to a more expensive hpop reservoir, I did the SD ebv tube and sensor that sits on the hpop bolt cover. Other then making the wallet lighter, had no perceived effect.

Looks nicer I guess.

Removed mine off the 4wd years ago, no issue I can tell.

Fixing to unhook the ebpv on the 2wd here in about 30 min lol thing is annoying when it actuates.

I posted earlier, according to my 1996 Ford Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual, it provides input to the PCM for exhaust backpressure valve position. That is all it says, it does nothing else, no input to fueling or auto trans shifting. If you have deleted the backpressure valve, there is no reason to keep the sensor in working condition.

Oil temp is another input to the PCM for exhaust backpressure valve position. After deleting my ebpv I didn't notice any difference at all in warm up time or anything else, it's a mystery to me why Ford insisted on keeping the ebpv for so many years. Kind of like the twin traction beam front axle, it was troublesome, a lot of guys hate it and don't understand why Ford kept it for so long. My guess is that it was a brainchild of a senior Ford engineer who became a manager and he over ruled attempts to get rid of it. Maybe the same for the ebpv.

Thank you for sharing this! I have actually been wondering if it had any input on anything important. I just did a bunch of work to my 97 and have been trying to get EBP to come up on my cts3 but I can’t find it in any of the pids. It’s a standard pid on my 01.

I actually just installed a glowshift back pressure gauge in my 97. I think it’s a handy tool for figuring out turbo efficiencies and making sure those of us with modified pickups aren’t putting our valve train in jeopardy from super high back pressures. I will say on this brand new stage 3 kc… 1:1 boost/ebp up to 30 psi. At 35-36 psi boost I am around 45 ebp… which should be fine. I don’t have head studs or upgraded springs or pushrods on this one so I want to try to protect it as much as i can.

A back pressure gauge would be an interesting addition. My dashboard is going to start looking like a 747 cockpit but nothing wrong with that.
