Thumping in back.

We had a cold snap last week and I used the rear climate control for the first time. I heard a slight thumping noise from the back. Only when the fan in back was running. I tracked it down to one of two blend doors in the right rear quarter under the cover. The one on the side of the inner fender is quiet but the one on top in the front of the inner fender is the culprit. It looks to be easier to replace than most of these I've deal with over the years. The next coupe of days I've unplug the wires to isolate it and then check to make sure it's the blend door motor, and the blend door itself isn't stuck.

My question for the cognoscenti is, are both blend motors the same part number? The parts are readily available and if they are the same, I may replace both since this will be for sale soon. I want who ever gets it next to have a solid car.

That one on top controls the outlets the air comes out of. Either to the floor vents or roof vents. The other one on the side is the temperature blend door actuator. Sadly, they are different part numbers because the shafts are different. You can get to the top one by removing the cup holder pretty easy. Motorcraft YH-1743 and YH-1767 (Temp Blend Door Actuator)

Well, at least I know the part number now. Thanks.

After I posted this, a thought ran through my mind about a mechanic trapped in the trunk. Then I saw an ad online about a remote help button. A woman goes to the bathroom at a funeral. When she tries to eave, the door **** comes off in her hand. She starts yelling that she's trapped and to let her out. It comes through the vents in the church. One of which is under the coffin. It sounds like it's coming from the coffin.Sad subject, but funny as all get out.

Got the part in yesterday. Had some time between rain events so I swapped the box out. The old one had fallen apart. About 10 minutes to swap the parts and the vents swap like new now. Thanks to all who gave tips.
