I used a full sheet of 3/4" CDX plywood to essentially raise the floor of my truck (pick-up with a cap). I used 1x6 pine on edge to raise it up (I think I ripped them to 5"?), had several of them across, running front to back.
Then I made drawers: Frames were 1x4 on edge with 3/8" CDX screwed to bottom. I had 3 drawers across, 16" wide or so, and 8' long! cost like $50 to make. I screwed cheapo handles on the ends and they worked slick. You can pull the drawer out as far as you want and just tilt the drawer down and it'd hold itself up. If your stuff is really heavy, you may need to add weights along the back edge (nearest where you pull the drawers from) to hold it down.
The 3/4" CDX is stout, I could haul anything in the truck that I did before and only lost about 5 3/4" of height.
Make sense? No way I was going to pay that much $ for something so simple. I used those drawers for 3 or 4 years till I got a different truck.
