Copper Brass Radiator

Summit Racing has Copper Brass Radiators. 3 Core
I bought one, and looks exactly like what is in my 86.

Of course they lowered the price since I bought it by a few $.
ordered on a Friday and got it the next Wed. Delivered by Fedex,
ships from Texas, and by the look of the box, looks like it was
dragged behind the truck all the way to here....LOL
Not a scratch on the Radiator though.
They are made in Mexico.

I bet that radiator weighs a ton. It'd probably cool much better than a parts store cheapie.

My NAPA cheap-o 2-row plastic tank & aluminum radiator has worked great for the last 10 years and I can't get the temps over 214F-215F in the hills on a hot summer day--temps verified with mechanical and electronic temp sensors.

Similar experience here, had to replace the stock one on our honeymoon, got an aluminum/plastic one at whichever parts store had it in stock. Been there 6 years and cooled better than the stock one. I don't know if the stock one was partly clogged up, but it went to the scrap yard this year and I'll get another parts store one if needed.

You know, I resisted this myself. Back along, advance auto used to offer copper/brass. I just looked at my F250 records and the first one failed, then a second, within a few years. My records show they were: Ready-Rad Copper/Brass Radiator #432194

I then just went to Auto zone and got the spectra radiator C1165 (that's the part# in my records. I either missed the "U" in it or it's been updated since) and it's been in there, issue free since 2017!

I can't complain about the aluminum and plastic radiators any more.......and I really liked doing it too haha.

This is my heavily used, main truck with electric fans too......I don't recall noticing an ounce of cooling difference. If there was, I've long since forgotten.

My 90 needed re-core, cost was ~$800. Just couldn't justify on a $3500 truck, so I got the aluminum/plastic the rad shop sells. This is a shop that does commercial, county, school busses, etc and he told me he'd had 100% sucess with these, so I bought it from him. Been in over 2 years now and it's great. Scrutinized the part numbers on box and tanks, turns out AutoZone sells it with thier lifetime warranty. I paid about $425 for it.
That was in Florida and temp was always fine loading flatbed to the brim with hay on 110° heat index days. Now I'm up in Oregon, 20°f, even with thermostat, never fully warms up because it's all downhill into town. Cut a piece of indoor outdoor carpeting and slipped behind grill. Carpet allows a bit of airflow. Combined with Block Heater, it's really much better.

I did just receive a new 4-row aluminum radiator from Classic Diesel Designs and boy do they seem nice. Very solid feeling and a bit on the heavy side. I need to flush the block and replace the o-rings on the oil cooler before I can install it but I certainly will report back. $350 plus shipping isn't too bad.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for choosing Summit Racing for your radiator! We're glad to hear the radiator arrived in great condition despite the adventurous-looking box. The carriers really keep us on our toes sometimes

We appreciate your patience and sense of humor about it! Feel free to reach out if you need any assistance or have questions about your purchase. Thanks again for your support!

Summit Thank You for the reply. Your Sparks store is 60 miles north of me.
I actually thought they had them in stock at the store. I was back up there
couple days later in the evening and talked to the manager. Think his name
is Sean, really nice guy. Said he would work with me if I had any problems.
Said some of their deliveries come in pretty tore up.

I bought it to have as a back up for just in case. There were talk on this forum
and another one, "Oilburners", from time to time about having their original
Brass radiators recored etc... but the cost was prohibitive. Also the thinking the
Brass one cooled better. IDK.

I have the aluminum with the plastic tanks that was in it from when I bought it
in 2014 with 192K, now 361K miles w/o any problems so far. Have 3 trucks so
may go into one of them.

Hi Summit,
I looked on your website for a copper and brass radiator for my F250 6.9l 4x4 with 15-5/8" between the tanks, height wise. This is the wide radiator for the 4x4 trucks. Spectra has the CU 1166 which is a drop in fit. I just installed one. The reviews are mixed for longevity. Does Summit have an option for me?

Charlie,

No problem! Glad you were able to connect with a retail manager about the box's condition upon delivery. It’s always smart to have parts on hand as a backup in case there's an unexpected failure.

To check stock at one of our retail stores, just head to our website to see where the part is available. If you're close to one of our stores, you can choose in-store pickup. If not, you can still use the tool to see where the parts are located and switch to "No thanks:Ship It". Here's a handy article with a video on in-store pickup that walks you through the process.

Hello BigBlue2,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the radiator for your truck. We tried sending you a PM but your inbox is full. While we don't have a copper/brass option matching the Spectra Premium CU1166 specifications, we do offer an aluminum alternative from Reach Cooling which is part number RCG-41-1166. The images on our site show a copper/brass radiator. We apologize for any confusion caused by the incorrect images. We are coordinating with our web department to update the images with accurate representations from Reach Cooling.

Comparison of Radiator Specifications:

The Reach Cooling RCG-41-1166 is designed to meet or exceed original equipment specifications, ensuring compatibility and reliable performance for your vehicle.

If you have further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. We'd prefer a PM so we don't take up @Charmalu's thread.

Thanks Summit for the reply. I'll keep Summit in mind for my radiator needs. Usually when my inbox is full I get a message telling me so. No full box message received. Maybe I'll clean it out. Till then feel free to respond to my thread in this forum re Spectra CU 1166.
