Valve stem pressure indicators

Pep Boys sells these things that screw onto your tire valve stem and apparently give you an at-a-glance indication if the tire pressure is off. Are they any good? Cost $10 each on sale. Wonder if they could go bad and actually let the air out of your tire?

If you decide to buy, be sure to get the ones rated for your correct air pressure.

My brother had a set on the throwaway car he used to commute to school. He never had a problem with air escaping, but the pressure 'reading' was always off. The set he had was supposed to indicate green at approx. 32 psi, but the caps would show green even when the tire only had 15 psi in it. I would save the money and manually check them. Not hard to remember if you make it part of your gas up routine - fill gas, check oil, check air, and get coffee. The last step is optional

Thanks all. I looked at them, Tire Minders I think they are called. Actually they are $10 for 4 of them. I think they are too cheaply made to be very accurate (thanks for confirming that Knobby). Guess I can do better eyeballing the tires. But yeah, I should check them often. Just one of those things that is a chore. I'd much rather check the oil. I am not going to get the tire minders because I have this strange feeling that if I do, Murphy's law is going to get me and they will leak the air out of my tires at the worst possible time.

I have them on two cars, and one truck. I just checked the two cars, and just like reported above, they aren't very accurate.

I will continue to leave them on, as they can alert to a sudden and drastic air loss. But, in no way should they replace periodic checks with a good guage.
