When I start my truck, I see 2 distinctly different colors of smoke from the exhaust, black and a light grey/blueish colored smoke. The blueish/grey smoke goes away after the truck warms up. The black smoke is there when accelerating heavily. I've also noticed the coolant level in the reservoir decrease ever so slightly.
I attempted to run the cylinder contribution test and every time I do the engine stops running and ForScan tells me the test completed and no errors were found. Is this normal?
What truck is it you've got? I've had similar behavior out of an E99. I always chalked it up to the one off PCM redheaded stepchild that is an E99. I'd be more concerned about the smoke than the CCT, that test is just a hairs breath above utterly useless. what mods have been done to this truck? Tuning can be the difference between a well mannered truck and an obnoxious PITA. The grey/blue at start up isn't too concerning as long as it's just a little haze and not mosquito fogger. The black is raw fuel most likely and shouldn't ever be there except under very hard acceleration.
Mine is also an early 99 and it does not die after the CCT completes. At least it didn't last time I ran it. It's possible an update to ForScan could have changed that by adding a glitch.
Mine doesn't do it all the time but some times I can't run a cct without it killing the truck or Forscan locking up and forcing me to reboot. Some times in the rain simply trying to connect Forscan will kill the truck. I've pulled the PCM and IDM multiple times looking for any signs of water damage and even swapped both for known good parts and never any difference. Again I just figured it was quirky E99 BS.
What happened to our signatures? All of my mods are listed in my signature. I, too, am dealing with an E99 truck but it is extensively modified. I have a hard time listing all of the mods without referring to my signature on here.
How long does the CCT test appear to take to run to completion? My test appears to only last about a couple seconds, MAX. No more than 3 seconds before I get the described results. And having been a few days since I've tried running this test, 3 seconds seems like a long time.

Never timed it or anything but I'd guess between 15 and 30 seconds.
Man that's weird, this morning on my laptop you had no signature but now there's a freakin novel. Huh
That is weird. I don't see any signatures anywhere in this thread except at the bottom of John's post and that's my signature at the bottom of his post. It must be my browser on this Samsung Android phone.
I can only see signatures on the desktop site. Mobile browser is a hard nope. He copy/pasted your signature into the message body. That's the only reason I can see it.
Would be nice if signatures could be turned on for mobile browsers (hint, hint).
The mobile version doesn't show signatures unless you download the app and even then it seems some people still don't see them. You can double check your settings though just to make sure
I am using the app and I've looked through all the settings I can find and I still don't see any way to show signatures while using a mobile app. So be it.
I've now logged in on my work computer and I see signatures at the bottom of every post in this thread except my initial post and every post from udsuth78. I wonder why the mobile platforms don't show the signatures. Maybe they would take up too much of the small screen space.
