ugh, my back hurts
i was unloading manure out of my truck today with a pitch fork (after loading it in there with a bobcat (didnt realize how heavy it really was))
My back is now SCREAMING, buy a dump trailer. Done some research and im set on 14k rated, gooseneck dump trailer; probably 14' long. Any thoughts, comments, likes/dislikes??
I've had a dump trailer for about two weeks now and am very glad I got it. It's like getting a tractor with a front end loader, you don't realize all the things you can use it for till you get it.
Just out of curiosity; how do those work. I assume its Electric over hydraulic, (electric motor turns a hydraulic pump) but do you have to recharge the batteries every time you want to use it or what?
our dump trailer is rated at 12,000lb gross with tandem axles and it uses a single electric over hyd. unit. I use a deep cycle battery and it will cycle 18-25 dumps depending on the loads before recharge. It will dump anything you can get in the trailer....
I'm going to see if I can wire the trailer battery to charge off my pickup. It didn't come setup that way but can't see why it should be a problem. Also want to keep the breakaway switch charged from the truck too.
I have a pickup bed trailer but I can't justify the cost of a true dump trailer. I bought one of the tailgate roller assemblies from the Local Pep Boys outlet. It has a manual roller that rolls up a mat spread in the bed before anything is loaded. It works reasonably well for up to about 1k. It's better than nothing but doesn't compare to a true hydraulic dump setup.
I have 2 dump trailers, one 12 ton and one 7 ton, both are H&H, I tow both with an 03 F350 single off the hitch. Both are 12 footers.
However, H&H have drop down tail gates, so your load ends up on the gate and in a muddy dump - 4x4 or not your stuck - well maybe you aren't but I am!
Look for barn doors, my next will have them.
