I realize this is probably a loaded question, but here goes.. I just bought a '94 Powerstroke. It has developed a diesel leak of some sorts on top of the motor. It shows up dripping out the weep hole on the bell housing. Supposedly, some metal fuel lines had just been replaced. I don;t know enough to be any more specific. I guess my question is this:
What are the most likely sources of fuel leaks under the fuel filter on top of the motor. When I shut the vehicle off, I'll still have 10-15 drips fall. Not alot, but enough I'm worried. Thanks for the help
Well, I looked further tonight. It looks as if it is collecting under the fuel pump (?) to the rear of the filter. The rubber lines look good. Is it possible for this fuel pump to leak? The two small metal lines going to it look intact. The big (15/16"?) bolt head on the back also seems ok.
Any thoughts of suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for the info! How can I tell if it's leaking for sure? Where do they typically leak from? I've done some searching, and see that the carter's tend to give trouble. If this is what mine is, is there and upgrade?
You might want to check the "sending-unit" looking device on the drivers side of the fuel pressure regulator along side of the fuel water separator. They can and do leak and send the fuel back over the rear of the valley and onto the bell housing. You might have to check it while running-careful.
That is where mine was leaking back in the summer. The fuel was leaking through the fuel heater connector that is on left side of the fuel bowl if you are sitting in the truck. You will just need to drain the bowl and I think it was about a $40 part from the dealer.
Once I took the connector out it was cracked all the way around the inside of the bowl, causing the fuel to leak through that, past the wire, in the valley and down the bellhousing to the ground.
