Need help on E4OD

I have a 90 F250 Diesel 4x4 with a E4OD.The transmision will work when first starting it up but after a minute or two it will stop and not move until I shut it of and let it set for a few minutes.I bought this truck that way.I was going to convert it to a 4speed out of my 85 diesel but now I am being told that it won't work.I found a 4x2 7.3 E4OD trans that was rebuilt for next to nothing.Does any body know if that will bolt up to my transfer case?If not what do I need to rebuild my trans and make it stay working?I don't use it for heavy hauling just to go to work. Thanks for any help

Hi, I wouldn't be too quick to junk the original trans. The fact that it engages first would seem to say that the basics are there. Maybe its just a control problem. There are sensors like the MLPS, that sense what gear you manually have it in, and reports it up to the computer. And your Diesel must have some sort of load sensor, like the gas engines have the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

Thank You for the reply. It does have a TPS but that kind of stuff should bring on a SES light? I think it might be the trans is gone or going is that now when it stops moving it it starts making noises. The person I got it off of said that he had it redone 3 times.
