Cruise Control

So I've asked this question before but didn't really receive any answers that might help so here it goes again. I have an 84' f250 and the cruise control doesn't work, it's the only thing wrong with the truck and id love to get it working. from what I can tell all the wiring seems to be in good condition, and the fuses are good. SO where do I go next?

auto trans, or manual trans?
if manual trans, i would check the neutral safety/cruise disconnect switch on the clutch pedal.
it could also be a bad connection in the steering column, or dirty buttons in the horn pad.

also on the manual trans, there is a spring on the clutch pedal. if the spring is weak and does not pull the pedal all the way up, the cruise will noy work. on my 88 i had to toe the pedal all the way up to get cruise to work. it would stop about 1/2 inch from top, which was just enough to keep the cruise shutoff switch open.

Ok I checked the spring on the clutch and it's fine, and I tested the wires at the speed control amplifier, everything seems to be in shape. I cleaned the buttons on the steering wheel even though they worked when I tested them. However I'm still stumped as to why my cruise control doesn't work. I did have a broken ground wire in my steering column but I spliced it and it hasn't helped anything.
