I have a 97 that I've thrown a ton of money at trying to fix some stalling gremlins and air in the fuel. needless to say, based on the amount of money chasing issues, and the extreme blow by that it's had for 7 years, I've decided to just re-power the old girl and start fresh.
Full Force Diesel who I just purchased 1.5 over injectors from (one of many parts to try and bandaid engine) recommended J&K engines as a long block to build out. Any one use them before? Funny enough I just had somebody at my house to do some repairs who had a 6 liter replacement from them and seemed happy. Any other suggestions for other builders that anyone has used? Ideally I'd get a ford crate with a warranty, but thats only for the newer 7.3s from what I can see. Any suggestions is appreciated
Not sure where you’re at exactly, but call midway ford in Kansas City if you’re looking for a Ford crate. My brother bought one for his 96 there a few years ago.
Out of curiosity, why full force injectors? Have you done a compression test? If so, what were the results?
How crazy of a build are wanting? A good used 7.3 is not hard to come by and it may be a good choice depending on how much of a build you are looking for
The shop where I had my truck at swapped out my swamps for Full Force as it was cutting off. I'd have to look at the diag info to see what specifically led them to replacing injectors. I'm wondering if I even needed them. But yes, a compression test was done recently. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but was likely half of what it should have been.
Personally I wasn't thrilled with full force injectors. The truck idled a lot rougher after I got it back. I'll be sending the sticks back to them to double check before putting them in my new engine

Thank you! I'll give them a call to check them out. J&K has a stage one build with upgraded turbo, cam, springs, HPOP and some other things for around 11K. 1 year warranty. Pretty much everything but injectors and glow plugs as mine are pretty new.
I got a Jasper engine several years ago and after about 40+K still going strong!
Thanks Glen - The shop I'm at had some issues with Jasper and some warranty work a while back so he's steering me away from them, but like any business, you likely have lots of good, and a few bad apples that make the most noise. Thanks for the feedback. Glad you're doing well too, you've been on this forum since I got my first headache, or I mean, OBS ford 15 years ago or thereabouts haha.
Jasper sucks when a warranty issue pops up, they won't pay a shop for anything.
J&K have a good name, but if you pick them you need to watch out. With an engine we got form them, they didn't include ANY of the small plugs, seals, etc, and we spent hours and days tracing issues because we never thought to check for the tiny plugs and fittings here and there that everyone else includes. No other engine builder I have ever seen is that frugal for what you pay for. Just go over every....square...inch...of the thing, literally, to make sure it's correct. And if you don't know the 7.3's that well, then don't get one from J&K.

Thank you. This is good information. I re-iterated about 15 times if I was getting something complete turbo to oil pan, minus injectors and glow plugs. He claims I will be. I did add the gasket set to the estimate so maybe thats the key? I pasted my estimate below. I'll bring this up with my shop who works on only power strokes, but likely not as many 7.3s these days.

I went JK route. and yes it seems like it will come incomplete. I had my shop double check everything based on your message. I asked if it was complete turbo to oil pan and was told yes. After the shop called it seems the turbo just comes in a box needing to be installed. no front or rear plate, and all the gaskets and seals will be for us to install from the provided kit. also no valve covers or oil pan. My shop seemed fine with that, so I ordered. but seems wild to ship out an incomplete non sealed engine. lots of room to blame us when a warranty concern pops up because something could have been "installed" wrong on our end. too much room for finger pointing. Time will tell. seems like they build a lot of these, and again, met someone locally with one and seemed happy.
