This past week-end I was towing an empty 7100# trailer and when going up hill and into the throttle, I noticed the normal turbo whine but it seems that it would kind of flutter. Haven't heard this before and was wondering if you had any idea's. EGT's were not higher than normal. Hoping it isn't the beginning of turbo failure.
The flutter you mentioned is a side-benefit of the turbo. You've had it all along, but probably didn't notice it until the conditions were right. Since you've got a 4" exhaust, you're probably not muffling the sound of it nearly as much as if you had a stock exhaust system, and towing, when you're turbo is working harder than normal, the sound became apparent to you. It's normal, though not necessarily very appealing in my opinion.
