I replaced the 3.0L engine in the 04 Ranger we acquired quite a few years ago. The #1 rule of engine swaps is do not use any wiring that comes with a donor engine because Ford is notorious for changing connector pinouts and wiring colors and because the same engine will have vastly different wiring in different vehicles, so it almost doesn't matter what vehicle it come out of.. you have to strip it down and transfer stuff from the old engine. That applies to accessory brackets, engine mounts, exhaust manifolds, and even the intake manifold, so it's always best to source an engine from another Ranger to minimize the work needed.
