Behind the kick panel on the drivers side of the truck. Just to the left of your left foot while driving. If you are taking the computer out, you will have to disconnect the main harness on the engine side of the firewall before you can get the computer out.
It's behind the drivers side kick panel. If your sitting in your truck it will the panel by your left foot, loosen the screws holding the plastic panel on, remove the cover and you will see a silver box with a code sticker on it. For example mine says HUG2 on it.
When removing the box from your truck it's easier to pull it from under the hood, there is 3 10mm bolts attaching the wiring harness to the computer box, loosen them along with the four screws holding the black fender liner in place in the wheel well, right on top of the tire. With a little prying on the fender liner you can just pull the box right out from under the hood wothout having to mess with the parking brake or plastic panel.
They must have changed things since '87. My computer only comes out from the inside, and has one 10mm bolt on the wiring harness, and one 5/16" bolt on a hold down that must be accessed from the cab. All I had to take out was the plastic kick panel - I didn't have to do anything with the parking brake. But like I said, I don't know what got changed since '87.
On my 95 there is three 10mm bolts holding the computer in. One for the harness and the other two hold the bracket that support the computer through the firewall. It's about a 10 minute job pulling the computer from under the hood. I can have my computer box on my kitchen table in 5 mins. if I needed to remove my chip again due to unreal gas prices.
