Code 173 issues and bucking

Good evening everyone,

I recently purchased my third 95 f150 with a 5.8L e40d 4wd truck(with map sensor), I was doing some tests on it and realized I had 0 oil pressure 😅. Anyway long story short I had another rebuilt from the same year and I'm having problems with a code 173(lean condition) and seems like it wants to stall in gear with or without extra load on the engine(a/c and heat) and the transmission is bucking randomly as if the clutches are slipping.

Now as for the code 173 I have checked fuel pressure on both tanks, and gone through the entire vaccum line system and found no leaks. When i replaced the motor i put all new sensors on it except for the tps and o2 sensor as i forgot the existed(i have both now but would like to confirm they are the problem before replacing them).

As for the transmission bucking, it does this in all gears no matter how fast or slow I am going. Another point to bring up is my theft light is blinking when I open my doors. Now it's on solidly when the doors are closed and blinks when I open the door(s) it was never on before I did the motor but I have set off the alarm a few times by accident. I am unsure if this will cause the transmission to act like this or not, but any help is much appreciated thank you in advance 😁

Side note i was having some issues with the truck almost stalling before I put the new motor in but replaced the iac and it seemed to go away. Also if someone could tell me how to update my signature that would help too 🤣 sorry for the long post I hope I broke it up enough.

H section testing in the PCED for your code 173 will have you monitoring the HEGO's and watching them switch from rich to lean
Can you do that?
Either way, look over those pinpoint tests (in the PCED)
A lean condition can be caused by numerous things
An injector or two that are not flowing enough fuel or are inop
Low fuel pressure
An intake leak
Etc.

Check your fuel pressure first.

Thank you manicmechanic007, do you have a link for that manual I've never seen or heard of it before.

as for the fuel pressure test I have already done that, Comes out good at 35 psi on both tanks and sinks to 32 when under load with the throttle

Under what condition did you measure 35 PSI? Key On Engine Off? Key On Engine Running?

32PSI under throttle/load is too low. The pressure should rise as load increases.

Alrighty I was redoing the fuel pressure test to double check my numbers, and while I was doing the key on engine off the gauge shot up to 35 then sank to 27. Tried it again and this time it shot to 35 then gradually went up to 39, tried it a third time and it shot to 35 and gradually went up to 37.
with the engine running it sat at 33 and with throttle it went down to 32 and up to 34. Thats for the front tank, the rear tank key on engine off shoots up to 38-39, when running it sits at 33 and jumps to 35 with throttle. The rear tank did not sink at all in psi

Edit- forgot to do this earlier but it jumps to 40 psi on both tanks with the vaccuum line removed from the fpr

Also got around to testing the tps and the resistance was low so I went ahead and replaced it but as soon as I got the throttle body off I heard what sounded like leaking air from inside the intake, I turned the key on and it got a little louder. I am starting to think one or more of my injectors is leaking into the compression chamber. What do you guys think?

Front tank listed pressure range does not look good. The rear is not much better. Here is a great write-up for testing fuel pressures at idle and under load: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rd-trucks.html

during the wot test it come up to 39-40 psi in both tanks, is it likely both pumps are going? Or could this be a wiring issue not giving enough voltage to the pumps?

39-40 is what I would expect. Much better results using the write-up versus a "goose" test.

So even though it's only at 33 psi at idle but comes to 39-40 under load does this mean the fuel pumps are okay?

While I had the truck warmed up I went ahead and pulled the codes again and it threw few out,

Koeo
111

Koer
41 no H02S switching detected

continous
126map sensor above or below normal range
327Egr valve position below minimum voltage, it's deleted but the sensor is still there
126 maps voltage higher or lower than expected or ac on, ac wasn't on

I don't have a pressure tester to test the map sensor but I'll try checking voltage and resistance, anything else got anything?

You never get two and three digit codes. It's two OR three.

I'm using the Innova 3145 code scanner to view the codes, I know it shouldn't throw 2 and 3 digit codes but thats what it came up with, I cross referenced the codes against the manual it came with. I'll try it again tomorrow without it just using the CEL, if it comes out the same will that point to a faulty ecm?

Try cleaning the pins on the data link connector, then re-run your codes checks.

If that returns two and three digit codes, excluding the separator Code 10, try using the manual way using a jumper and counting flashes.
