New here but not to FTE. I admit I have a Ford truck problem.
This 66 has an interesting story. The guy built it to haul his ****** to Moab and pull a camper. The jeep went into (onto?) the back of the truck. He extended the frame and built the box.
I originally bought this truck to put the drive train in a 50 F2 but……the more I checked it out the more I liked it and I already have a running F1 but I didn’t have a 60s truck. Now I’m excited to get started on the project and the plan is shorten the bed to 8ft and put a tail gate on it and make my wood hauling/work truck.
My first question here is what engine do I have? The VIN plate shows a C but decoders like Fordification don’t show a C. Plus the PO may have changed it. It’s a F250. Do any of you recognize it?
Thanks
I was excited that with just a small amount of effort I was able to turn it over.I won’t be able to get it into the shop until next year but if the weather cooperates I may try to start it.
C engine code was used in earlier years to designate the 292 engine and that's what it looks like. It's definitely a Y-block. Last year for it was 1964.
I can also tell that the cab is not a 1965 or 1966 because it has the cover on the firewall below the solenoid for the heater motor like 1961-1964. 1965 and 1966 the heater motor was on the other side of the plenum chamber so they had no cover there.
If there is a Warranty plate on the driver's door near the latch post a picture of it and I can decode it for you. Also, if you take a picture of the grill and post it I can tell you which year that is. Could have been changed, but if not it's a great hint.
Definitely a 63 built in Oct of 62. All of the badging and grille and roof height is consistent with a 63 model. Cool project. I have a 63 F250 4x4 as well. The drivers side exhaust manifold look to be car/t-bird version mounted backwards so it's using a passenger side car part. Those flow pretty well so a good mod.
Here's a link to decode the rest of the tag.... https://www.fordification.info/tech/vin63-64.htm
Here is a vintage photo from Ford showing what the stock look was in 63 for a non Custom Cab 4x4. This is the long bed style it would have had new by the 81A code....
From what I found 120 is wheel base for long bed .
Correct... The "1" on your tag is a little off register... All 61-66 F250 4x4 had a 120" WB and all were long beds. And all of them had that same style bed if a Styleside.
