i heard that they hold up to 35" tire without problems. i have 33" tires now, and am also going to 35" soon, and have no problem giving one a try from what i have heard about them. there is a guy i go wheeling with in texas and he runs 37" tires on with powertrax front and rear. he runs the pretty hard and doesn't have a problem with it.
Originally posted by checkyoursix I have heard that lock rite and power trax lockers don't do well with bigger tires. I have 33s right now but plan to use 35s real soon. If they would handle it I would buy one, I just don't want to have to replace it. Has anyone tried this with bigger tires?
I've cranked the hell out of mine with 37 inch tires. However, I now don't like pulling heavy loads with mine as the rear stays fully locked. Since I'm more concerned about traction than cornering with a trailer, I'm cool with that. I just try to unload the rear (get off the gas) before I corner. As far as having a locked rear end when driving on slick surfaces... well... let's just say you'd better be ready to have your back bumper try to lead the vehicle. If you learn good throttle control, it's ok... but don't try to break any land speed records like this.
if you jack up the rear and put it in neutral both tires should spin in the same direction with an ls, if you put it in park it should take alot of effort to spin one tire, but if you can doit the other one will spin in the opposite direction just like an open....th emore worn the ls is, the easier it will be to overcome the clutches
ls sucks for offroad becade once you do a few one wheel wonders....the clutches go to hell and your left with a burnt up ls
Originally posted by fishmanndotcom no...if it came from the factory as a 4x4 then it has a LS in the rear....I had one. it ain't much but it is there.
if you jack up the rear and turn one tire the other one should turn in the opposite directionif you have a LS

They made quite a few with open front and rear from the factory. It has been my experience that they are ls front and back or open front and back.
My suggestion would be to wait a few extra months and pay around 400 or so and put a Detroit locker in the back. It may be a little hairy until you figure it out but I think you would find this the cheapest way for the best traction. Having said that, you are going to spend 400 why not wait another two months, stash away your beer money and get an arb or if you have enough beer money an electrac. As said before these are the greatest lockers ever. I have them fornt and rean in my truck. While I did not feel that I really needed one in front, it was only 200 more and then I had a full locker.
No way dude... The TrueTracs are the ultimate LS for somebody who wants better off-road traction, but yet retain BETTER than stock streetability. Nothing but Kudos for mine so far. Put one in the rear and forget about it.
CWB, How do you like your electrac in the front? I'm debating wether an arb in the front and an eletrac in the back might be a better combo. I'm putting this combo on a 155" wheelbase crewcab so it's a good towing platform. How does your front electrac effect everyday driving? Do you do a lot of driving in snow and ice? Thanks
Sorry if I wasn't clear- I have arb's front and rear and I absolutely love them. The electrac was about 200 more and I didn't think it was worth it. I would have liked an electrac in the rear but they don't make it yet. I don't do any driving in ice or snow but I will in a few weeks for the first time.
Originally posted by fishmanndotcom well most of the 4x4's have the LS in them...now they can be worn out and act like am open but the LS usually comes with the 4x4 package.

Jason was that something that Ford stared doing to the F150s and Broncos after 1990? Because I have seen plenty of them open front and back from the factory and I ended up with a Bronco open front and back with a 19 rear axle code.
