coming home last night i got a wiff of diesel fuel...... i didn't think too much about it and then it started getting strong...........
looks like maybe the top of the fuel filter sprung a leak? super thankful it didn't burn down- i got in and it was steaming so i hosed it down without getting the housing wet in case of water intrusion-----

Yeah, common issue on the earlier filters.
Ford has come out with a couple of updated filters with subsequent new part numbers.
The newest filter update is part # FD4647 and it has substantially increased strengthening ribs on the engine mounted filter.
and that new style has a bypass valve….so instead of filters clogging and bursting…it goes into by pass and sends all the fuel junk to the injectors.
Never heard this before, where did you get this info from???
There is no external indication of this, only external change is the strengthening rib difference.

we had a discussion on the 6.7 section and there was a ford pdf with details and internal views.
you can go to 2:30 on this video and he explains it.
definitely a problem in my mind. I’ve blown one of these older filters with less than 3k miles on it and I suspect it was bio mass related clogging….now with the new filter.. that junk would go directly into the injectors once the filter goes into bypass.

I'm not sure why they are claiming the bypass is new to this filter. Ford/Motorcraft stated that the bypass was in the FD-4625-AA, which was out late '19 or early '20.

if it was…it didn’t work…filters were bursting….i had one which burst and it was the prior generation.
i have the prior gen odd and there is no mention or illustration of a by pass filter.
new version pdf has mention of the by pass and cut away as to how it works.
Here is the prior version…maybe someone has the new version
