been thinking about putting a 460 in an f-150 for a nice fast truck. whats the pros and cons to doing this? is it possible to get 12 mpg out of a truck with a 460? i know i want to go carb, and i dont need more than 375-400 hp. btw, this will be a daily driver. what do you guys think?
Properly tuned you can get 12 on the highway. Around town 8 is a good figure. You will love the power. I put one in my 7300 pound van and it rods around like a car now. I used a Holley 750 on a Stealth to bring out all the stock engine has to offer without losing drivability or low end torque. A cam and a looser converter would really wake it up. I haven't tried headers or porting the exhaust on this one yet.
fordmarshall111 ~ true, there are no "cons" when it comes to stuffing the asphalt churning, stump pulling 460 into an F-100 / F-150. I love my conversion - I can run WITH the pack whenever **I** choose to, or become LEADER of the pack whenever **I** choose too and he is a street-sleeping daily driver. I rarely run him "off idle" and will probably never wind it up "all the way" (too much power). Check him out in my gallery....
I get about 10 miles per gallon and he's "fairly well built".
i went from a stock 400m to a stock 460, and there is a HUGE difference. Way more power, same mileage. Like he said, there are no "cons". What motor is already in ur truck fordmarshall111 ?
I have a 1979 F250 with 460.some one sells bolt on EFI with turbo to update old 460's for about $800. Supposed to be do it your self. Takes HP from 225 to 450. Mine runs on propane and I get 8 miles to the gallon.
