Hello y’all. Just picked up a new F350 Lariat. First Ford I’ve owned in 20 years. Still trying to figure out all the technology as I’m older and not a techno guy nevertheless when I’m listening to either the radio or Sirius and I make a call using Siri Apple Car Play after I hang up the screen goes directly to audio sources apple car play and the music don’t come back on. I then have to hit the button for either to get music back. Is this normal? Seems like the radio should automatically come back on after the phone call is ended. The truck didn’t come with a manual….thats stupid but I ordered one but it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Also do y’all like the ford assistant or the apple car play thing? Any way to set default screen choices? Love the truck though! Thanks y’all for any input and suggestions.
SOLVED….So if you just speak to Siri to make a call then when ended my screen is on audio sources with car play selected with no audio. I then have to select FM, Sirius etc to get music back. What I’ve found is that if I hit the ford assistant button and then make a call, when ended my screen and music come right back as it was before I made the call. Don’t know why hitting the button on the steering wheel makes a difference but it does on mine.

Reason: Solution
Seemingly just another Sync/Car Play bug. Just like some of the other problems like continual Car Play/iPhone disconnect for no apparent reason...or the truck always going back to My View on the main dash screen instead of the last View selected...or HUD settings continually resetting back to default settings. Settle in and enjoy the ride...
Also, the truck manual is in the truck software under Settings I believe.

I started using the software manual but I’m rural and my internet sucks. Ya think for $85000 they’d give us a freaking real manual.

My 2024 F250 does the same thing. I’m guessing it’s doing what it’s programmed to do. Doesn’t mean it’s right though.

Don't use Car Play. It's fraught with bugs. And you can't use pinch/squeeze actions on the Ford screen for Apple Maps or any other app that has that feature on the native iPhones.
Instead:
Pair you phone with the truck so that the truck recognizes it.
Listen to SiriusXM (select it in the appropriate screens on the Ford as your music source) - or your radio station.
When you want to make a call just use Siri ("hey Siri, call /name/"); the name has to be in your contacts; or call out the phone number. The phone audio should switch over to Ford Bluetooth. When you hand up it should revert back to your audio source.
If you get a call it should ring on the phone and Ford and show up on the screen.
Pretty much the same for messages ("Hey Siri, test /name/" and you will be prompted to say your message. Incoming messages should show alert on Ford screen and you can press "Listen").
New autos, computers and even TVs are not for us old analog type folks......

You would think for $85000 they would give us a interface with more computing power than a Coke machine. I consider the Sync system to be garbage... and probably a combination of poor hardware coupled with abysmal software.
I speak to Siri to make phone calls and send text messages all the time. This issue happens to me also sometime. It seems to be a timeout, I.e. if you use Siri / make a call for more then 30 seconds, the audio does not come back on. If you are quicker than that, it does. I have not timed it so 30 seconds is just a guess, but that has been my experience.
Also, just another tip. I sometimes ask Siri questions while driving and she will usually tell me I cannot provide that answer while the vehicle is in motion. Enable Alexa also. I ask Alexa the same question and she gives me the answer without having to stop.
iPhone and Messages have a problem, it's not the truck it's Apple. While driving with Sync Maps up, Messages used to pop screen over to Car Play, with a banner that would show who was sending the text. If you didn't answer Car Play would clear, going back to the previous in-use screen.
I tried to figure out what setting I changed....it's not my settings...it's Apple/ iOS changers that recently happened.
So just cause you think it's Sync....it might not be.

Are you sure that "...Messages used to pop screen over to Car Play..."? When my Sync Maps are being displayed a pop up appears saying I have a message; I can press "Hear" (and some other options I don't remember); if I do nothing the pop-up goes away and the display shows the Sync Maps again. If I press "Hear" I can listen to the message, select some pre-programmed responses, or just hit cancel and go back to Sync Maps.
I don't use Car Play. It all happens between Sync and my iPhone which is Bluetoothed to the truck.
