Another complaint about gauge accuracy in my 2017 Super Duty. In addition to questioning accuracy of fuel/DEF gauges I’ve noticed that on the Tow/Haul screen when towing thru the mountains the % grade screen never even comes close to the posted warning signs. When the warning signs say 7% or 8% or 9% grade my truck gauge shows 3-4%. I can’t recall it ever showing more than a 4% grade. Is there a way to calibrate or is my gauge defective? Anyone else notice this? Thanks

Are you talking about this?
If so that won't jive with percent grade cause it is degrees of elevation and depression.

Interesting topic.
The short answer is: You're using the wrong tool to attempt to measure grade.
A truck is not a reliable scientific measurement instrument. Come to terms with the fact that the dash readout has inherent sources of error, treat it as an approximation, trust the road signs, and adjust your driving accordingly.
Thank you, so, you can learn something new every day! This I did not know and now I do, which explains when I was going up and coming down Goat Mtn and I was at 16* and 13* respectively I thought it seemed awful steep for 16 degree slope.

Grade percentage is a measurement of rise or fall over a given distance. For roadways, as an example, a 5% grade will have 5 feet of elevation change over 100 feet. A 10% grade will have a 10 foot change in elevation over 100 feet.
Sure thing, I am not an off roader but I guess degrees is a more applicable metric to them? Given the fact my truck tugs around my fifth wheel I would have rather estimated/approx percent grade as well.

16* of depression, yeah I would nope right out of that. Yikes.

I actually enjoy it, tis a bit of a challenge getting this long pig up a couple of my sites, have to do a couple of Austin Powers turns on the switchbacks, and you have to pick the correct line way ahead of time, before you can't see the road. And just prior to the 16/12 it was at 18/14 so I wasn't taking pics lol Not the best crawler It does this better
The truck shows pitch in degrees, not gradient (percent, where 45° = 100%). Stupid, but it's probably because the steering and roll are in degrees and some engineer thought it made the most sense to keep the UOMs the same.

That is one long (nice looking) drink of water.
Have you ever high centered it when off the beaten path?
