Good news, Bad news. Good news
I got the waterpump issue resolved!
Background: I replaced the engine in
My 88 f250 with the engine from an 85 I've got it all back together and now it Won't Crank it acts like the New starter is binding up. The motor turns over by hand with a rachet and the starter works Great until I bolt it up then it just clicks it won't turn over, I'm at a loss what am I doing wrong??? Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

No expert here, but there are several different flywheel/cam/flexplate combinations and they all need to line up. What did you use out of your original parts? If you replaced the engine, there's a chance the cam could be wrong. At least that is my understanding, all the stars need to be aligned...I'm not sure how to know what cam is in the block without taking it out, maybe someone will know what was OEM that year and that the engine you got was OEM. Does that make sense? What flywheel did you use? Your old one or the flywheel from the '85 you swapped in? AFAIK, the starter pinion needs to align with the flywheel teeth, also.
The $64k question is, do you have a 302 in your F-250? I'm not sure this applies to other engines.
i got my truck cheap because the previous owner put the starters out of an automatic in a manual transmission truck. i put the right one in the truck and drove it out of his driveway. of course then my thermostat locked up on me and blew the radiator cap off. so I rebuilt the top end.
I think that must be My problem a
Stater Ringgear issue. It has a new battery and new starter, I also bench tested the starter it works fine! What's confusing is I used the ringgear and starter from the 88, could it be the way it bolts up to the engine it looks like the ring gear is to close to the scatter shield is that possible. It's a 351 from an 85 f250 that I'm putting in an 88 f250 I'm using the same Starter, Ringgear and Bell housings from the 88 I'm petty sure the Starter is binding up I didn't realize there were so many diffrent combinations of starters and ring gears. I kno it's just something
I'm missing. I'm just an old Shade Tree mechanic. Thank you guys so much for the help I Really appreciate it..!
Tried all those things and it's still
Binding. I dont kno what to try next it truly is baffling_?? It's gonna take someone smarter than me to figure this one out. I þþÿp>
