My new shop manual doesn't show the original air cleaner except a picture. Is it an oil bath style. I would like to put this back to original if I can find one?
Also, the original steering column: How does the turning signal switch assembly on the column come apart for access? Again the shop manual doesn't address this.
Again, thanks to all for your help. I am very grateful for all you folks being here.

Tom,
your air cleaner was originally an oil bath. You can find parts at www.f100.com. I converted mine to a paper element but from the outside it looks almost stock. you can see a little of the element because it is about an in taller than the stock.
I have a 53' and want to convert my oil bath to a regular air cleaner but keep the stock look. Is this a hard process? Is there anyone I could send it to because knowing me. I would mess it up.

The article I refered to is what I used as a guide. Mine was a bit different because his was a V-8 and mine is a I-6. I found an element at the parts store that works good without needing a spacer or cover. It is just a little taller.
Hey, why not keep the air cleaner oil bath? As a matter of fact, the oil bath cleans the air cleaner than the filament filters. And you'll still have a nice conversation piece for the young bucks when you pop your hood!
I still have the oil bath cleaner on my '54 and have had no problems with it in the 25 years I have owned the truck, no leaks, no spillage.

I have added some pics of my air cleaner in my gallery. E-mail me if you want to know more.

Cool, Thanks for all the help. Im thinking about keeping it stock. Do you need to change out the oil just when you get an oil change or more often than that?
You just have to change the oil in the air cleaner when you change your motor oil. The shop manual recommends changing it more often if your truck works in a dusty environment, ie construction, farm, etc.
Thank you for your reply. My engine is a 223 with a holley one barrel. Am really looking for the original air cleaner as someone stuck a little chrome one on. I want to keep the truck completely original. Going to be kinda tough finding replacement parts as time goes on like turn signal switch, brake linings, etc. But I am semi-retired and just bought this original '55. I will soon have the time to finish it up. It is completely original and everything seems to be there except the original fan blade (found one at John's
F-funhundreds) and the air cleaner.
Have a super day, Tom
