I've read/ heard good things about the "the seat shop". Never used them, but I wouldn't be afraid to or concerned about them.
I've used Richmond auto upholstery for seat covers and steering wheel covers a few times, always had great results with them. If you haven't checked out Richmond then see link below (again not saying anything bad about "the seat shop" just providing another option for known quality stuff).
What did it cost to have that sterring wheel done...did they add he upper hump handles?
At this point, I honestly don't remember. Looking at the emails, It appears to be about $600.00. The larger "thumb rests" were additional, as well as thicker wheel padding too.
I bought the Richmond Leather covers with no hesitation or regret. They are top quality and even have the Limited logo stitching. No comment on The Seat Shop product but what I did find was their price was measurably higher and would not embroider the Limited logo. So I would say if you want to pay more and don’t care about the logo, buy from The Seat Shop. You most likely get a high quality product. I haven’t read any complaints about them and they seem to have quite a following here.
Can speak to the Katzkin product. I ordered a complete set that they claimed was exact OEM for my 2001 Limited. Not only were they NOT the correct pattern but a cheaper quality product. My local upholstery shop ordered them and got stuck with the product. Katzkin wouldn’t refund or credit at all. I would never do business with them again. If you like Katzkin, order with caution.
On another note, I had my steering wheel done by another shop using a BMW leather and loved it until one of the repair technicians using abrasive palm gloves totally ruined the leather wearing through the dye. I waited too long to realize it and now it’s too late to complain so I’ll be having it recovered again. Average price I’m finding in SoCal is around $500. I just ordered some of those plastic steering wheel covers and seat covers from Amazon and will demand the technicians use them. I get it, they’re working all around cars & trucks and get dirty but when you have fine leather, regardless of color, tan in my case, I’m sick and tired of cleaning after their sh$/.
That's a vinyl coated wheel, the Eddie Bauer was usually black leather wrapped or tan. Eddie Bauer was the top designer appearance level, and most likely was an option on the Limited trim only, therefore offering the full redundant steering wheel controls. But there were some wheels with only the cruise functions.
I replaced the steering wheel many years back when the truck was at 130k with a new in the box unit I found cheap online...probably getting rid of inventory. The truck is now at 260k and it's still in decent shape, but I can see it will need replacing again. My F350 has the black vinyl wheel with 206k on it and it still looks fine. I've been thinking about getting a tan vinyl unit like John in OkieLand has for the Excurion, just haven't found one yet, but haven't really looked hard either. I know there were 2 different colors of the tan, so that will have to be considered too. Have the same problem with the youngest daughters 08 Ford Edge Limited leather wheel.
I have an Eddie Bauer with what is *absolutely* the original wheel (judging from the amount of wear). It only has cruise control buttons but is leather wrapped. I mean it was leather wrapped. I'm not sure if you can still call whatever that substance is now "leather"
I used the seat shop for my front middle seat(I have the fold down seat). It took some time to get, because they probably male them to order. It was good quality and fit perfect. I also used them to get a new foam bottom for the drivers side. Again, good quality product.
