Automatic parking brake?

Happened to my 2023 Lariat today. Had my dump trailer hooked up. Got home to dump the contents. Every time I put the truck in park as I was lining the trailer up to make the dump, the parking brake would automatically engage. Had to manually disengage. Is there a setting for this? Has never happened before with this trailer or our Jayco. I was in 4 high at the time. Don’t believe it did it in 2 high.

Pretty sure when you put the truck in reverse on the infotainment screen there is a setting for auto parking brake. Not sure what decides to turn it on or not.

There is another time that it will auto engage(even if the auto parking brake is disabled) and it has something to do with either not enough brake pressure when shifting to park or the time you were in drive. Something along those lines. I found it in the owners manual of all places LOL.

I have it kick a lot when I park the truck in my garage. I back against a small piece of wood and I always make sure I go to neutral to make sure nothing in the driveline is loaded up before going to park. I usually dont touch the brakes while doing this.

There is also a "reverse sensing" setting in the driver assistance menu that applies brake pressure when backing up and sensors are blocked. Tailgate down blocks the sensors. Learned this last week hooking up the camper.

When you put it back into reverse or drive doesn't it auto release?

I'l have to look at the settings because I don't recall exactly what I did. But when I first starting pulling a trailer with my new 2023 the brake kept coming on when I was backing the trailer. Somehow I turned that feature off.
It's never applied any brakes any other time when reversing, trailer or no trailer.

With the tailgate down, then rear parking sensors are blocked, causing the "reverse sensing" feature to activate the brakes. Tailgate up, no issue. The feature can be turned off in the driver assistance settings.

I'd have to check but that must be what I did. If reversing with the tailgate down the warning you speak of does indeed show up in the cluster. But no brake action takes place.

I noticed mine doing it as I was hooking up the fifth wheel and I couldn't figure out what was going on. I checked the auto brake settings, etc. until I finally found it in the driver assistance settings about applying the brakes when rear sensors are activated. Now I know! LOL!

Good to know, my FIL's '22 keeps slamming on the brakes when backing a trailer without plugging in the trailer (which is how he normally does things, since he only hauls his boat to the end of the road to launch it). I'll see if he wants it shut off, I tend not to make any changes to his unless he requests it.

Always fun learning new features of a truck. Or how to defeat them!

While you were maneuvering, was your seat belt unbuckled? Door open? No brake applied? Maybe resting at standstill and not in park quite yet? I think there are scenarios when the parking brake is automatically applied in case you step out of the cab with it not in park.
I think the Tow/Haul mode also triggers auto brake when parked.

The truck will automatically engage the electric emergency brake if it senses too much roll while in park, either forwards or backwards roll, with or without a trailer. It's almost like it wants to keep the transmission from getting into a bind.
It will automatically disengage when you put it in gear, forward or reverse, and tap the accelerator. Not a bad function in my mind. I've never had it accidentally engage or surprise me, but I manually use it often when parked on a grade.

I have found if you use the magnification option on the back up camera it will then auto set parking brake when you put it into park. Its trying to make sure after you line up the ball hitch it doesn't move.
