how do you remove the cowl tabs?

The picture in my Chilton's manual shows removing the cowl grill retainer plugs with a pair of needlenose pliers. It also indicates that the cowl grill may use screws instead of retainer plugs. I just checked mine and my 92 uses screws to hold on the cowl grill.

Closure 
Used needle nose pliers to pull and shear off black plastic rivets..Replaced rivets with stainless philips screws two inches long. May switch to a black
plastic screw for aesthetics tho
