is it worth it ?

Guys, dont know if I should pass this up but i found ot on ebay and its only 20 miles from me. Just talked to the guy and he said he had just relisted it. Starting bid before was 75, now 50. I asked him if I was interested would he take 75 he reminded me t his starting bid was 50 now, that is what he paid his friend for it. Said he didnt think it had ever been rebuilt or bored before. But did say it smoked when it ran . He helped a friend pull it about six years ago and stored it eversince. Going to look at it in the morning and any suggestions of what I should look for would be a great help.

the engine dont look the best but does it come with an intake and carb, and the rest of wihich it is missing, if it was running 5 years ago but is in need of a rebuild and if u do need a 351, i guess its not that bad for 50 bucks, u could pull a head off to see if it has been rebuild, new pistons, bored and what not, check to see if its stuck, inspect the heads over good, look for a noticable crack maybe, if not what the hecks 50 bucks, u could end up buying some other motor for more and that end up being in no better shape, i would say if u need it and want to spend the money to rebuild it take it, and good luck with your outcome.

Hey fordman thanks for all the info. But Im a newby when it comes to rebuilding engines so exactly what do I look for to tell if it has been bored, and if the pistons are new do they have a different shape from stock. And when I check to see if it turns, how much pressure should it take. Is there any weak point that seems to crack? It doesnt come with air intake or carb, but thats ok its going to be a little project that I'll have plenty of time to do.

when you take the heads off you may have to use something to clean the carbon off of the top of the piston. if it has not been bored any you will see std. stamped on it. as for turning it it should not take too much to turn over. if the pistons are new they would either have a different stamp on them or look very clean. but if the motor smokes then i doubt they are new.
