Behind me, that is… I’ve been trying to find door mirrors that actually function as they should. I had closed off the original mirror mount holes and have tried three mirrors in the spot I chose to put them .....(maybe my first mistake…bad spot).
When mounted, none of the mirrors would ‘turn in’ enough to get the correct view, even with the convex on the passenger side.
Here’s what I have
I haven’t found anything with a long enough arm to get where I need to see and the one I did find with infinite adjustment…is no longer made..
My thought is to open up the mount on the inside to allow the mirror to swing in more
Here’s what I have…
I’d like to be able to remove the ball pivot stud from the mirror frame and ‘adjust’ the hole enough to move the mirror side to side but not fall off.
Any guidance on removing the actual mirror from the mirror frame then be able to loosen the ball pivot to bet the hold reworked???
Or, I’m open to any other options..
I want to be able to cover the existing holes in the door so the mount point if fixed.
this is what I really wanted but it's no longer produced
Hey John,
I'm surprised you can not locate this mirror. Look somewhat similar to the 87-91 F-150 mirror.

I have seen something use a Harley gearshift lever for a arm and mount a somewhat universal mirror.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but did you try rotating the round mirror so the screws are vertical or even inline but below the arm? It may allow more sideways movement. Or maybe not.
Abe, it would be almost impossible to redo the holes, you'd have to mark it from the inside, I imagine and cut from the outside...and reaching it with a slant cab would be nearly impossible.
Joe, I've tried every possible combo to see if would work and it just won't turn enough... tried with a dremel tool to grind away the edge of the ball hole and just couldn't get enough bite
to do any good. An open hole and a carbide bit would work.

Anyone ever tried to remove the mirror glass from the body?? is it glued ?? screwed?? or held in by magic.
I've ordered a set of these... they swivel on the mount and will fold in against the cab even....and the mirror moves left/right..... up/down...we'll see next Tuesday
I'm interested to see your end results John. I have the traditional mirrors on my 56 and the passenger side is useless. The traditional but incorrect mirror
You might be able to loosen all 3 screws to separate the layers enough to use the dremel tool to enlarge a notch to get more pivot. You may have already tried this.
You might be able to also make a wedge shaped spacer just like your mirror base out of polished aluminum or?? To angle the mirror mount and tilt the mirror face inward more.

The part that inserts into the door are straight on those mirrors BJ whereas the originals had a bend in them. That might be the problem. John needs 56 doors...lol
That is correct John. But they're chrome and I'm not sure they would stand to be bent without the chrome poping off. I've probably got an old one laying around in the shop maybe I'll try it and if it's better if so I'll get it chromed.
this does not answer your question but i put a small rear facing camera tucked under the rear bumper and this makes it so much easier to back up and also gives a very good wide angle view of what is behind you.
The screen replaces and looks like the rear view mirror Also records front and rear. The one I use is Wolfbox, I put one on my F250 also.

Got pictures of mounting location and inside the cab? Is it wired or wireless?
