I have a 56 F100 that I've owned for 2 months, and I am trying to replace the brake booster that is bad but there are no identification numbers on it. I am hoping someone can help me and give me an idea it is so I can get a replacement. The long pedal rod seems to be odd but I'm needing it for my braking set-up.
I have diligently searched for a brake booster that would work and settled on a unit for a 1972 Ford F100 from my local parts supplier. I got it home and saw the booster rear mounting studs were spaced wider than my mount for attachment. I had a unit that was removed from my 55 Bel Air and thought I would give it a try. I got it mounted but I had to use the master cylinder from the 55 Bel Air as well. I'm sure it is a universal GM style unit from China but I now have power disc/drum brakes on my 56 F100.
I used a universal type booster and disc/drum master. I mounted it over the rib on the firewall with a spacer that sits over the rib. The one that was in it when I got it was sitting over the valve cover so I moved it and changed the pedal at the same time.
