New Motor

Long Story made short my 85 F150 is dieing water keeps getting in the oil not running hot or anything just a little white foam on the dipstick . So i conculed i have a cracked block.Looked at all of the local junkyards and none have a carbed motor but several have early 90's 300's my question is can i convert a fuel injected motor to a carb with electric fuel pump and the intake from 85 or will it not work i pretty sure it will just not a 100% any input would be apreciated.

The FI head has a chamber design that promotes a faster burn than your carb'd dizzy is acustomed to - I'm not sure if it would work 100%. How much water are you losing? A little white foam maybe an indication of too many short trips. Oil has an afinity for water and if you don't run the motor long enough at temp it won't have a chance to "bake off" the excess water. How long of a trip do you normally drive with this motor?- just a thought before you start thinking the block is cracked.

the water loss is so tell it's hard to tell a little or any is missing from the radiator plus the foam is only at the base of the dipstick and when i changed the oil no water. the truck runs all the time even in traffic at 150-160 degress plus most of the distance at one time is rarely over 7or 8 miles.

Perhaps a look-see at the head gasket would be in order before you conclude the block is cracked?

Just a thought...

If you are just getting oil at the base of the dipstick, don't worry about it. Most engines do this when they don't reach normal operating temps for a certain period to flash the water off out of the oil. Matter of fact my trucks dipstick is like that right this moment, just because it hasn't been driven a distance in a while.

If it doesn't flash off after say a good 20 mile trip, then i'd start suspecting something.
