Looking for a 12 compressor, but wondering with all the electronics in todays trucks/cars if it is OK to use such a device? Prefer one that hooks directly to the battery, and not thru the cigarette lighter (if any autos even have a lighter anymore).

I think "cigarette lighters" are now called 12 Volt receptacles. The only one of these on my Ranger is in the bed.
If you choose to hard-wire the compressor, be sure to install an in-line fuse or risk burning out a wire harness or worse.
