After 40 years of owning this f150 ,I finally have installed my manual choke.Though a PITA to install through the lower dash ,the swap on the carb was a breeze .This carb ,a Weber 38-38 had an electric choke .I can now use this in summer months to increase rpm’s to cool the AC much faster ,not to mention ,control in colder weather. TR Final install
Dave , Weber sells the full kit, or just the cable and bracket. At first I purchased the Dorman kit and did not like it ,seemed cheap .Amazon carries just the cable and bracket .

Is that a Weber carb thing? The factory manual choke on my EB (Motorcraft 2100) only opens and closes the choke. It doesn’t do anything with idle speed.

Then something is missing on it. Most all chokes have a fast idle cam they actuate. You might have to punch the throttle a little bit to make it step up on the cam after you activate the choke. The 2100 2bbl definitely had it stock. They also have an adjustment screw where you can adjust the ratio of increase rpm versus how much the choke is closed.
It has been a while but I think I used to close the choke with the cable and step on the pedal to both set and take it off fast idle. Maybe it doesn’t work like it is supposed to?
Back to the original post: I don’t think using the choke for extended periods to increase idle when using the a/c is a good idea since it will also change the fuel mixture

He could adjust it so the fast idle cam works before the choke door closes very much.
I had to mess with this when I used a computer 2150 without the computer. The computer 2150 fast idle cam only had one very high idle step on it. After that, the other fast idle steps were taken care of with the dc idle speed motor on the throttle by the computer control. I took and ground one more notch in the fast idle cam, and then turned the fast idle speed ratio adjustment way up so I got some fast idle out of the new notch I made. If you take the carb off and mess with it long enough, you can see how it all works. It is a little complicated sounded when described with words.
To operate the choke I put my foot on gas and if the choke is pulled the full length the truck starts and idles rough ( this is all in warm weather ) (no choke required)continue pushing pedal and pushing my choke. In a bit I get a high idle 2nd scenario -After the engine is warm , I go out start truck ,depress the gas pedal ,then slightly opening the choke ****, I get a clean high idle around 1000 rpm .If I depress the gas pull out a little more ,rpm’s are like 1300-1400.On this set up ,the thing to remember is depress the gas pedal to control the choke **** in or out.I am sure when pressing the gas pedal and slightly open the choke ****; the high idle must be on the cam , I have not done any adjustments ,other that setting the carb up years ago (2013)using a vacuum gauge for set up .I do not plan as you state -to use this for extended periods .For me a good 2-3 minuets is sufficient . Tomorrow,I can look to see where the choke is in each of the scenarios mentioned above ,as I do not think on high idle it’s changing the fuel mixture .its just on the fast idle cam . TR
Another question. What weber carb are you using? A lot of people want to modify their 300 sixes. If you bought a certain model, did you slap it on and go or did you have to do any jetting or other tuning? Did you buy it already tuned for the 300 six? How does it run?
The Webber carb is made for replacing the straight six motors mostly AMC 232 and 258 motors and mostly in Jeeps.
My son has 1 or 2 and could not get them to run right on my sons YJ Jeep so went with a Holley 2300 350 CFM carb.
From what I have seen posted they have to be installed 100% what the install paper said you got issues. Maybe that is why my son had issues as I seen it after the Holley install?

How do you make a Ford more reliable? Probably lots of things except putting something Italian engineered on it! I didn't care for the Weber that came with my 258 inline six Jeep. Never liked hot starts or cold ones either. Bowl went dry overnight. Rough idle I couldn't tune away and didn't feel particularly powerful. Plus they require a fuel pressure regulator because they can't handle more than 3 or 4 PSI.
