What is this, please?

In what I'm certain will be an unrivaled display of my ignorance, I post a picture of the document I found this morning when I took the rubber floor mat out of my '74 F100 Custom. Can y'all tell me what it is called and how I should go about decoding it?

Please keep to a minimum your laughter at my failure to know more.

A.S.

I have always heard is called or referred to as a "Build sheet". I believe that is what the dealership used to order a truck and then that piece of paper comes down the assembly like with the truck to tell the builders what parts/packages the truck gets. And AFAIK there is no way to decode it. Even going to competing web sites.

Some say you can get some info for it from Ford? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ild-sheet.html

https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos...a-build-sheet/

https://vincheck.info/build-sheet-by-vin

https://charpindustries.com/product/...t-build-sheet/

Way back in 2006.....Build Sheet Information Request by Ford, for free 1-800-392-3673

Just have your vin # ready, they ask you a few ?'s, then someone will call you back in 2-3 days and let you know it is processed. It says it takes 2-3 weeks to get..." He received the info quickly, about four weeks; the time-line beats Ford's On-Line Request format! Build Sheet Information Request Form - 91 & older scroll to "Vehicle Parts Accessories" by Ford at customersaskford.com https://www.customer....ourceSite=Ford But this format is ONLY for 91 and older, BroncoDubs has a 95, so the phone is better. I posted what the Ford Build Sheet in letter format looks like earlier here; here is a sample; Build Sheet Information Request Reply Letter w/original build date, optional equipt., axle ratio, int./ext. paint color, etc.; NOV 05 for an 85 by equivalent (Beetlejuice) at SuperFord.org.

Thank you for your response. I "discovered" Marti via a Ford enthusiast buddy of mine and ordered my report. I understand Marti is authoritative, but there are a couple of items on the report that I find, for want of a better term, curious. For example, Marti says "omit outside mirrors", but it is equipped with what I've been able to verify are Ford "swing lock/low profile stainless" mirrors. The build sheet shows omission of standard mirrors, but has the character "B" under the heading "CHROME". Neither seems to match up with the mirrors I currently have. In addition, the truck has a vinyl seat with large cloth inserts. Marti shows vinyl, and I am hoping to get a clue as to the difference from the build sheet if I can end up learning more from it.

If you have any thoughts on the above, I would appreciate your input. I REALLY appreciate you telling me about my formerly "mystery" document.

You've provided me some fantastic resources here; thank you, and I will check them out and post any significant results I am able to obtain using them.

Thank you for taking time to read and respond to my post. As a newbie to retirement and Ford truck nirvana, I sometimes feel lost out here in the hinterlands.

AFAIK the mirrors were put on at the dealership. But I have also heard that about the rear bumpers. And these have both....

Any chance that the seat might of been swapped out my a previous owner and THAT build sheet came with it in the seat springs? At least you did not get the one that said "omit the outside dent".

What a great photograph and an astute observation from that image. Based on what you've said, I'm going to attribute the mirrors to the dealer. My build sheet shows my rear step bumper as being factory installed, and it is still there to this day.

The further I get into my old Ford truck journey, the more I believe there is no "always", "never", or other absolutes with regard to when and how our vehicles were equipped or built. Lots of strange things have happened in this world, and our trucks are certainly no exception.
