First off thank you to all of the help you guys offer.
Ok I have a 1979 Bronco with a 69 460 in it. A few weeks ago I went to start it and a large puff of smoke blew out from under the hood I thought it caught fire there was that much. So I started it the second time just fine but there was a vibration now and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I got home tranny was a little low so I filled it. Still vibrating I have checked timing, compression(130 min), spark and plugs, push rods. Now I haven't checked #1 TDC and position of rotor but looking for some possible options before I pull what little hair i have left out. ANY help is greatly appreciated thanks.
If you are lucky, you just broke a valve spring or bent a pushrod
I'd pull both valve covers and take a close look
Your vibration sounds like a dead cylinder to me
You mentioned pushrods, did you inspect all of the valve springs? Closely?
What ignition system are you running?
Does the 1969 460 motor have the stock Autolite 4bbl carb on it?
The breaker plate is tight?
The timing chain is not 55 years old, is it?
My vibration now maybe in the transmission. With this vibration the tranny doesn't shift while in D it can manually shift but it won't go into 3rd and won't leave 1st while in D.
