rebuilding ford 9 inch

My 78 F-150 has a ford 9 inch rear end with 3.50 gear ratio.I found a kit on the internet that is a bearing and seal replacement kit for it.I am gonna do a restoration project on the truck starting next spring so should I buy this kit and put new bearings and seal in the axle or just leave it alone. It doesn't make any noise or grinding and seems to work excellent.
I am also gonna have another 3rd member with 4.10 gears in it with a locker so if this one did break I could put this one in for a replacement until the other gets fixed. And the truck will be my daily driver.

Any opinions should replace,should not???

Thanks,
Dan

I would leave the rear alone until it starts giving you problems. If it leaks, then you can pull out the 3rd member to reseal it and take a look-see at everything without tearing it apart. I know a guy with a '78 who is still running his original 9" rear w/ no problems... over 350,000 miles on the truck!

I would check the back lash. If you have to much back lash then you have some worn gears and or a bad pinion bearing.
