O Ring failure on Remote Filter line 5.4L

I have a 98' F250 LD W/5.4L. A few weeks ago it developed an oil leak that is more like an oil explosion! The problem is the lower remote oil filter line O Ring gasket. It failed allowing oil to spray out onto the engine and ground. Two different Ford dealers have tried to fix it by replacing the gasket only to have it fail a short time later (5-10 miles down the road). The last dealer wants to replace the lines which also include the filter mount. The part is $160 and he's not even sure if it will fix it. Why can't they tell me exactly what's going on and does anyone know what's causing the Gasket Failure? Thanks.

Have you got a bad relief spring and getting like 150psi of oil pressure or something?
Check the pressure with a real gauge to see what you have.

O-Ring

Been here, done this, got the T-Shirt.

The fitting that the filter screws onto is threaded on top and bottom. I went to the dealer with the same question and they wanted me to bring it in. On my way out a Mech pulled me aside and gave me the scoop. The filter mount fitting goes thru the oil line cooler hose disc and screwes into the block. You need a special tool to tighten it back up in to the block. But the mech let me know (At my own risk, he added) that a 1/2 in. socket extension will wiggle in there nicely and give a few turns. Worked for me and no more leaks. I tighten it every filter change now as it loosens when you remove the filter sometimes..

Good call Thunderbolt, mine doesn't use one so I wasn't aware of that.

Thanks guys. I think you're saying that the oil cooler mounted to the block is loose. I saw the bolt that holds it on, It looks like a torque tip bolt. I'll try tightening it but I'm replacing the lines just incase it's in the filter mount.
