distributor gear

I have a 351 W out of a 1995 F150 and have bought a Holley Sniper 2 and their Hyper spark distributor which came with a cast iron gear , I want to confirm if it's a steel gear I need , it's the original cam that I am using. Holley won't make any recommendations regarding using the original gear..

Original gear is a Melonized steel gear. A cast gear won't live on a steel camshaft. A bronze would also work ok.

Draw a file over it. If it cuts, it's cast if it doesn't its steel. JMO

I ended up using the original gear , the one on the Holley distributor was cast..

Original steel gear off stock distributor? If so, good. I've made the steel gear on cast cam mistake and the cam was getting eaten up after several thousand miles.
