When you say needs attention. What would that entail? Grinding off the rust & then rhino lining(or the like)?
Yeah mechanically removing the rust (think wire wheel on a grinder type thing), chemically treating the bare metal/ rust, then a rust preventative coating. Personally I wouldn't do a bedliner material of any kind. Do a little reading around the internet, plenty of info out there on it (and varying opinions on what methods/ products work the best too)

Have you had any other diesel engines to compare the 6.0 against?
A work colleague of mine is a die-hard GM guy (currently owns a Denali HD gasser, because even he couldn't justify the cost of a new diesel), loves to preach the praises of the General from on high every chance he gets. I once asked him what other makes of vehicles he'd ever owned that has him convinced that GM is by far the best in every regard. His response was that he and his whole family had only ever owned GM products, and he responded to me with, "why would I want to buy some POS made by Ford, Dodge or Toyota". So dude just keeps on preaching how GM is the absolute best at everything even though he has absolutely no frame of reference or experience to base his statements on.

that reminds me of 1964 when I was going buy a new car.
My brother was building up hot rod engines for Dragsters, and flying boats, ( they fly when the nose goes down )
he tried his best, to get me to buy the new Pontiac GTO, but dad had a Dodge pickup and told me to get another Dodge product, so I ended up with a 1965 Plymouth Satellite, 4 speed Hurst shifter, 383ci 330 hp gas engine....
that thing went thru rear tires about every 3 weeks

Think I would've picked the GTO. Especially one with a triple deuce carb setup and a four speed over the Satellite. Both are equally unobtainable now though.

he was talking about the Triple Deuce GTO, and in retrospect, I wish that I had gone with that one.
