Hey all, new member here with a 1983 Ford F100. Regular cab short bed truck. Its in decent shape but its got some issues I will definitely need help with fixing. Has a 302 from a late 60s Galaxie and an AOD. It drives alright besides the power steering being broken, but it does have pretty bad wobble around 35-45 mph, has alignment issues for sure. I'm pretty unfamiliar with twin I beam so not sure where to start.

The best place to start would be to start a new thread over in the "1980 - 1986 Bullnose F100, F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks" forum. They'll be able to get you going the right direction.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to FTE and the 80 to 86 truck area we can walk you through getting that truck running straight again

You may also want to check out the NC chapter area https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...hreads-15.html
There are a few of us that hang out in there. Most within 30 min of the Raleigh area but have others out farther like Goldsboro.
Where is home so we have an ideal if you need a hand and close we can swing by.

As for your truck and the steering and twin beams just think of it as 2 halves of a straight axle.
Not knowing the miles on the truck but as a guess the beam pivot bushings and radius bushing are most likely bad.
As part of my trucks rebuild, cab off frame, I replaced mine with poly bushings.
Some say it gives a ruffer ride but I dont think so and I got over 28K miles on it in 5 years.

If using poly pivot you keep the outer shell from the rubber in the beam. The hard part is getting the rubber out and fire works pretty good
Use the poly lube when putting it back together and you will not have any noise from them.

The next is tie rods and ball joints if worn will add a lot of play to the steering and how the truck handles.
With a helper have them rock the wheel left & right just so the tires just move.
With you looking over the tie rods starting at the box on out to both wheels. Any movement of 1 part and not the other is bad.
You may also see the beams move at the pivot if the bushings are really bad, may need to turn the wheel more to see it.
You should do this motor off & running to see if any play moves around.

You may also want to check where the steering box in mounted for play / cracks. I hear the 4x4 trucks the frames like to crack and cross members get loose.
Ball joints you will need to jack the truck up and with a bar under the tires lift up and look for play at the ball joints, play is bad.
Also when in the air grab the wheel top & bottom and rock it in and out checking for play, could be wheel bearings.
Grab front & rear and try turning checking for play.

Good luck and let us know what you find
