Who in the hell told Ford to put the oil fitler behind the front diff?
I am attempting to do my first oil change on this vehicle and I am ready to blow it up. I had a 98 F150 but it had a remote filter and was easy to get to. I cannot get my big arm into the tight spot to remove the filter. I bought a filter wrench that attaches to the end of the new filter but will not grab the old one with out slipping. Any help would be useful before I really get violent.
I would recommend re-locating the filter. On this message board there is a part list to do it.. it moves it right under the driver side bumper - very very easy to replace. Use the search featuere, it may be a little extra work right now but a lot less in the future.
I purchased one of the metal filter wrenches that fits on your 3/8" rachet...its worked great for me on removing the silly thing...it is in one heck of a spot on the 4x4's but its easy on the 2x4's (my last Exp was a 2x4).
