When i run my van, AMP light on the dash stay on. When rev it gone.
What could be the cause?
Also when turn on the headlights, clock on the radio goes almost off (when I turn off the headlights goes normal)
As far as the clock is concerned, how bright are your dash lights when you turn the headlights on? Try this one at night, or in a dark garage.
Turn the headlight *** and see if the dash lights, and the clock, change brightness. Normally the clock is brighter during the day so it is visible, then darker (and dimmable with the dash lights) at night.
For the amp light, check the voltage with a multimeter when idled, and reved up. It would seem that it may not be fully charging at idle, could be poor wiring, could be bad alternator or voltage regulator. Being thats an ambulance, it may have a different setup than most vans/trucks
Leece is a pretty big alternator.
Good to have.
You should see at least 13.8 ish at batteries with all lights and accessories on.
Many times all that's really needed are new brushes in the alternator. Could be something else, but if it's "weak" , youll usually find worn out brushes barely making contact with slip rings. Then it can't get enough excitation to make strong enough magnetism to create a stronger field, hence more amps.

Now I will charge the batteries first, and will test the voltage with all the lights on. It will light like new year tree 😅
If is not charging enough I will remove the alternator and will try to repair locally (if someone agree to repair it).
Those 3 AC terminals on mine(ambulance) went to a device that puts out 125v DC. I removed it and capped the lines, but I still have it and the wires still come off the alternator. I had to get into a physics forum and even then they could not identify what it may have been used for.

Some of the ambulances have battery charger under the doctor's seat in the back. Mine has something with radiator with cooling hoses. Don't know does is charger or some sort of a/c. Need to identify all the cables and connections.
Mine has that also, it is a heating and AC unit in mine. Mine had a large Motorola radio behind the seat and a battery disconnect and fuses and relays under the seat. It depends who or what company made the conversion and built the box. Mine is a Horton.
Mine have battery disconnect and some electronics for it under the driver seat. But also has AC power outlet on the side of the van. I think that is for charging the batteries, but need to track the cables to figure out where is the charger. Mine is NATIONAL Ambulance builders, Orlando, FL.
