1955F 100 with extremely stiff clutch. FE 390 connected to four-speed Toploader using stock linkage with a Center Force clutch and pressure plate. Can anyone help with a fix for this? Thank you!
I'm using a modified stock clutch linkage with a 390 and a Borg Warmer T-10 4-speed and had a similar problem.
I moved the Clutch Adjusting Rod connection point closer to the clutch Pivot Bracket pivot point to gain more leverage on the clutch.
It's a balance between using less force and being sure to have enough movement of the clutch for both engagement and disengagement.

Thank you very much for the help. This has been a huge problem for me. I have a Center Force clutch and the spec is the throwout bearing needs to move 5/16 inch to Fully activate the clutch. Do you have a Center Force clutch? How much closer to the pivot point did you move the clutch adjustment rod? This is a great help thank you so much!
I also have a 390 and toploader, one problem with the toploader is that there is no place for the pivot on the transmission like the stock one, I will attach a picture of how I did mine, it has worked well for the last year and 10,000 miles
I'm running a "Brute" heavy duty 11" lever style clutch. Measurement between the pivot point of the bracket and the adjusting rod connection is 2-1/4". I tried the connection point at 3" from the pivot point, but still had too much of a force requirement for my liking. Clutch pedal travel seems about right, 1/2 to 1" play at the top at full engagement and disengages fully between shifts.
