A little advice. You squirted in oil, and it did not give you any change. That means your rings are good, but your valves are bad. Why spend money on a reman engine when it sounds to me like your short block is good. If you are on a budget, you really only need to do the one cylinder hear head. I hope this saves you alot of money.
Thanks Montana. Engine is already in the shop. They pulled it today and started the tear down. Bill has already gone up on the repairs. Apparantly the injectors were really funky and the one in the number 8 cyl. burned a hole in the top of the piston. So it needed torn into anyway. Valve job was going to be a minimum of $1,200 so I don't feel like I am getting screwed. Plus I will have a new 91 Bronco when it is done. Servicing the injectors is spendy though. $37 a piece.
For the folks looking at engines in the other posts I did quite a bit of research. Here is what I found:
B&M Engine in Portland will do a remanufacture of your engine for $995, comes with 3yr unlimited mile warranty - 503-225-3220
Rapidfire engine in supply in Portland does a remanufacture for $1,175 with a $225 core charge (7 yrs/70K mile warranty). 503-284-1889 www.ford-motors-engines.com/index.html is $1,042 with $150 core charge
I heard do not get a Recon remanufactured no matter what
rebuilt-auto.car.engines is $1,127 with $150 core charge
psengines.com is $1,199 plus $400 core charge
rebuilt.net is $1,090 w/ $300 core and around $200 shipping.
All remanufacturedes come pretty much with just oil pan and timing assembly. The rest is up to you.
One last thing on headers, apparantly no matter what ones you get you have to mess with the exhaust behind the headers, move the Cat, etc. Is that what people are experiencing? Anything wrong with the shorties?
