89 project ranger help

so im planning and making a list of what we want for our project truck and im just getting started right now, have some questions about good transmissions and rear ends for a 302 on the street might take it to the drag strip sometimes but mainly just street fun

The rear end of choice would be an 8.8 from a Ranger/Explorer. Transmission choice is up to you manually or auto ?
