Just joined today since I bought a 96 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab with a short bed recently. Pretty much, I like how older cars from the 90s used to be made, body wise I mean...being more structurally sound (in my opinion) and simpler. I got her at a decent price so now I'm planning to fix some things, learn lots about her and umm build her up with some good ol' love and care. This is literally my 1st Ford ever but after doing much research, it's the vehicle that fits me the best. So, thanks for having me and I look forward to chatting with yall.
Thanks for the welcome 🤗. I've never heard of wool wax but I'm always thankful for Google. The other day a mechanic recommended por 15 instead of using Rust-Oleum as rust killer so I'm sure this truck's going to keep teaching me something new everyday.
Before you get too deeply invested in it, go over the frame . . . especially the part where the front frame rails are riveted to the rear frame rails. Look for major rust damage etc. Hopefully you're good but this is what I'd check first on one of these.

Welcome aboard!
Thank you for the heads-up. Yeah while redoing the floor pans (driver side pretty much gone), I've noticed the frame underneath that spot is pretty rusted. So I was thinking I'd need to wire brush and hit it with some Rust-Oleum reformer/undercoating (best funds wise) too right? Or is there a better way to go about it...like that wool wax, por 15 suggested maybe or how another guy top coated everything with bedliner? I also saw that Amazon has weld-on frame pieces so thought I'd check into that too after winter breaks.

This really depends on how bad the rust is, and how much metal is left.
