Does anyone out there have recomendations on a transmisson cooler? I have a 2001 Mazda B3000 3liter 4x2 extended cab. I'm ponderng doing it myself. I've been told it's not very difficult. What I was told at the local Autozone is that I need to know what size will fit in my engine bay. If there is a kit designed for my truck I'd love part #s.
Any stories from experience would be greatly apprecieated. I figured if U-haul can do it I can. I'm also planning on going full synthetic on fluid.
What fluid do you reccomend?
My 2000 3.0 2wd came with a tranny cooler. You just need to figure out how much space is available in front of the radiator. It should not affect the warranty unless you use fluid that doesn't meet the Ford specification.
I have a ’96 B3000 and I just had a tranny cooler added two weeks back. I can’t remember the brand name but it isn’t one of those cheap looking versions. I had the tranny service too and I’ve been running Amsoil synthetic in the tranny for 35,000 of the 75K miles on it.
I have it mounted at the top right corner just slightly covering the radiator. The version I have has four mounting holes like an amplifier and only two of the bolts are holding it on. It’s on there really secure because the tranny fluid feeding lines are holding it from the other side. The lines go in front of the radiator and down to the factory hard lines and tap right in. I had a transmission shop install the cooler and it looks great. You’re right it doesn’t look that difficult I’m just lazy and I decided to have the transmission serviced so let someone else do the hard work.
I didn’t expert the shifting to improvement but the life of the tranny sure will.
Good luck with the cooler. I’ll get the brand name for you soon.
