Engine won't bar over

Working on a 2018 6.7 doing the fuel system and a few other house keeping maintenance items. Got to the part where you turn the engine over to line up the timing marks on the cam and HPFP gear and that went well. However, since we're doing the rocker arms, I had to turn the engine further. When I tried to turn it further, it only goes so far then stops like something is binding up.

Things to keep in mind:

-Injectors are all out due to the fuel system replacement and DCR upgrade

-Glow plugs are all out since they are being replaced

-Rocker arms are all off due to them being replaced (found two on the passenger side and one on the driver side that were barely on the valve stem)

If it were an issue of fluid in one of the cylinders, it has the glow plug and injector bores to escape from. This hasn't happened. I've barred this engine over to the point where I'm almost tightening the already torqued harmonic balancer bolts.

I plan on thoroughly investigating this with a borescope, but before I dive in, does anyone have an idea as to what could do this?

Check to see if you have a push rod jammed.

None of the pushrods are in the engine.

What are you doing?

if you installed a new cp4, what year cp4 did you use? The 2020 or later cp4. Have reversed furl line connections.

i would recommend you break the seal on the cp4 in and out lines and see if it turns over.

unless you are certain you did not install a 2020 and later cp4.

Forgot to add, no HPFP is installed either.

A DCR is what's going in this engine once this is sorted out.

So you have no push rods, no injectors, no cp4 pump, and you can’t rotate the motor.

what about the oil pump…

is this a rebuilt short block that you did or a junk yard motor you are trying to bring back to life.

was this motor sitting for a while and if yes was it fogged?

your batteries are tested good?

if there is a back story I must have missed it….

The truck came in on the hook with a crank no start condition.

The engine cranked but it wouldn't start due to a myriad of electrical issues.

There was water in the fuel system, thankfully no glitter so before it blew up, the customer opted for a fuel system and DCR.

This is the original engine installed by Ford when it left the Factory late 2017.

It has not been sitting.

You stated no push rods but what about the cam followers? One of them may be jammed.

Can't imagine one being jammed that hard but I'll check it out and follow up.

I cannot think of anything that would be preventing you to manually turn it over.

Might have to use the scope and have a look into the cyclinders or the next thing is to drop the lower oil pan and see if you can determine the issue.

I think you may have just found your missing 10mm socket.

I'll assume this one does not matter since he's turning it over manually.
