I have a 92' f150 with a 351w that has had an intermittent issue where when the motor is cold it dips when it tries to idle, but when the motor is warm, it acts like the throttle is hung open when your driving (will do 30 mph when your off throttle) and when your in park it holds itself smoothly at 2000 RPM.
I've replaced the easy stuff like fuel filter but since it's intermittent I feel like its a sensor/electrical issue. Only thing I have a possible lead on is the fuse that controls the o2 sensor heater has a wire spliced into it.
Does anyone have any experience with this or any ideas?
Surging idle is usually due to vacuum leaks. High idle RPMs can be due to a bad Throttle position sensor, vacuum leak, or bad ignition timing.
Check your codes. It's fun and easy.
+1 for both of those above posts
If mine I would also clean the injectors through the rail and clean the throttle plate / upper end and valves
That is an injector service at a dealer or shop equipped to do it
Look into obtaining an OTC injector cleaner or other brand
(we all made our own long before you could buy 'em)
Look at your upper plenum gasket visually
All the way around
They crack and break away, sometimes you can see a piece of the plenum gasket sticking out
Your symptom sure sounds like a vacuum leak to me too, but could be one of several things
Have fun
