My wife washes/drys the truck. After getting one truck ceramic coated, she insists on me getting the incoming truck ceramic coated as she likes how easy it is to wash. Who am I to say no? But I do like how easy the coated trucks get clean. Like a 5 year high grade wax.
Does it matter if the truck gets totally covered in mud about once a month? Does that make the coating diminish quicker or can i still expect several years out of it?
We get our vehicles* professionally ceramic coated with gtechniq. We pay $1300-1500 per vehicle and it comes with a 9 year warranty. Makes a huge difference compared to wax. Well worth it IMO.

How much dirt road and mud do your trucks usually see?
The mud will rinse off if the paint was just washed, but if it has seen a few weeks of road dust, the mud will stick more along the sides, than slide off. Once cured you can power wash it all you want, so it is easy to clean. The spray on stuff lasts about 2 rain showers, or one drive in the rain, or 2 hand washings. It lacks bonding agents and lays on the top of the paint so washes off easily. Reason being, if it bonded, it could leave some very nasty streaks that would need a buffer to remove. Thats the main difference between a coating and a wipe on ceramic.
Every October, I hand wash and dry my truck and then apply Turtle Wax Organic Solutions Ceramic Spray. The stuff is amazing and has won a few competitions on the Project Farm YouTube channel.
Worth it for some, not for others. I had my 22 ceramic coated and won't do it for future vehicles. Granted most my gripe is about the person who did it and not the product itself, however I don't see it worth more than a few hundred bucks to me and of course a good quality ceramic coating done by a professional is 5-6x that cost or more.
When I got my new F-250 last month, one of the very first things I did was put a coat of ceramic on it from Chemical Guys. Did it myself, because it was brand new I didn't do much more than clay bar it and wash it with Chemical Guys stripper soap first. Didn't bother polishing it because it didn't really look like it needed it.
It's only been a month, but it came out great. About $200 in materials, plus a day's worth of sweat equity.
I looked at it and I've had it done on other vehicles but I couldn't justify spending the money for paint protection film (PPF) as well as ceramic coating on my truck and the PPF does a much better job protecting the paint so I went that route.....and yes, apparently you can ceramic coat PPF but that seems like a waste of money to me.

2 cents,

Did both on both trucks. The Ceramic on PPF just helps to keep UV damage down, and helps get the bugs off easier. The WORST is doing the bumper with PPF!! The pros earn their money with PPF application, it is not easy to do and any small mistake shows.
Project Farm on YouTube did a test video on ceramic coatings. Adam’s graphene ceramic came in 1st. Turtle Wax Hybrid ceramic spray came in 3rd which is impressive for a spray. Adam’s is about $150 for their graphene ceramic kit.
I live down a 1.5 mile clayey dirt road. I have CQuartz Pro which seems to allow less mud to stick and it does make it easier to spray off. But you're not going to get that "immaculate polish" look without a mechanical(hand) wash.
