239/337 flathead swap
I purchased another 1949 F-3 recently from a salvage yard that was closing down. Prior to purchase I knew very little about it.other than the body and frame were in great condition for their age. Once I got the truck home, started "going thru " it. Everything appeared correct and ( again ) in excellent condition, til I opened the hood. The truck did not have a 239 flathead in it like I was expecting. It has a 337 flathead v-8 ( yes, not the correct motor for the F-3 ). My question is, since this is a larger engine than what was originally in the truck, will I have to change the rear end as it still has the factory one?

337 is a larger engine and quite the find. It puts out ~150 HP. Unless you are really punching things, I wouldn't worry about the rear end too much.
Do be aware that the 337 is harder to find parts for over the 239, but don't let that discourage you. It's a very cool thing to have!
